Ode to Recovery from A Stroke

After a stroke, you should rest
Just a short while, to recover your zest
When you are ready, start on your recovery
With family support, a journey of discovery

Work on your weak muscles fibers
Move your weak limbs with vigor
Practice, practice and practice
Prick the muscles and nerves with cactus

Therapists will help you with speech
Try to move your lips when they teach
Speech is important for communication
The key words here are vocal action

Once you can understand and speak
The prognosis will not be so bleak
Physical, occupational and speech teacher
Their work will in your improvement feature

In some patients their stroke is too severe
Not the slightness improvement will appear
They will be paralysed forever
Until a new cure which is clever

It also interferes with blood supply and healing.

Chapter 1

Stroke and the Brain

What is A Stroke?

A stroke occurs when a part of the brain is damage due to lack of blood supply.

There is usually someone suffering from one every minute.

It happens when the blood vessel to a part of the brain is blocked (due to a blood clot) or burst.

The brain cells in that part cannot get the oxygen and nutrients so they are damaged and unable to function.

When the brain cells is damaged, there is loss of function of the part of the body controlled by the brain cells

There may be partial or complete paralysis and numbness on the side of the body controlled by the damaged brain cells.

The damaged brain cells may affect language and vision as well.

The body will not be the same as before.

The mind will also be affected with some patient having severe depression and some loss of function of the brain.

More things have to be done to help a patient who has had to deal with a stroke.

Many times that person will think that his life is over and that there is no hope
